How does BigTeamGolf pick fair golf teams?

Each player's weighting is calculated using their scores and birdies over their last twenty 18-hole rounds. The exact formula is proprietary, but the result is a single number that represents a player's current form.

When you run teams, BigTeamGolf balances total team weightings to create the fairest possible matchup.

Is there an Android version?

Yes — Big Team Golf works on Android via our web app at app.bigteamgolf.com. It runs in any browser and can be installed to your home screen for an app-like experience.

To install on Android:

  1. Open app.bigteamgolf.com in Chrome
  2. Tap the menu (⋮) in the top right
  3. Tap Add to Home screen (or Install app)
  4. Create your web app account and join your club

The web app has the same features as the iOS app — joining clubs, running teams, and entering hole-by-hole scores. Note: the web app uses a separate subscription from the iOS app. If you want to use both, you'd subscribe to each.

Can I use Big Team Golf in a web browser?

Yes. app.bigteamgolf.com works in any modern browser — Android phones, iPhones, Mac, Windows, or tablets. Both versions share the same clubs, so members on iPhone and members on the web play together in the same group.

One note on accounts: the iOS app and the web app use separate subscriptions — pick whichever works for your device. Your club doesn't care which one you signed up through.

How many players can be in a club?

When you create a club, you choose an initial member capacity. If your club grows beyond that limit, you can increase capacity from the admin tab:

  • Add 10 members: $1.99 one-time
  • Add 50 members: $4.99 one-time

If you need a larger custom capacity, contact us at info@bigteamgolf.com.

Does everyone in my group need an account?

Yes. Every player joins the club with their own account — on iPhone through the App Store, or in any browser at app.bigteamgolf.com. That way everyone sees teams, live scores, and their own stats on their own device.

Monthly plans start with a 2-week free trial, so your whole group can try it before anyone pays. And at $0.99/month for the Par Tier, it costs less than one lost golf ball.

Can I be in multiple clubs?

Yes! That's what our tier system is for:

  • Par Tier ($0.99/mo): 1 club
  • Birdie Tier ($1.99/mo): Up to 3 clubs
  • Eagle Tier ($2.99/mo): Up to 10 clubs

If you play at multiple courses or are part of different groups, higher tiers let you maintain separate weightings for each.

What if I need to move a player to a different team?

After running teams, you can manually move any player. This is useful when certain players need to be together (like a guest playing with the member who invited them) or apart.

Pro tip: When moving players, try to swap with someone of similar weighting on another team to maintain balance.

Our course doesn't allow 5-somes. How do we generate teams?

By default, the app creates the fewest number of teams with up to 5 players each. After running teams, increase the number of teams to cap each at 4 players (or fewer). The app will rebalance automatically.

How do I cancel my subscription?

iOS app — subscriptions are managed through the App Store:

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone
  2. Tap your name at the top
  3. Tap Subscriptions
  4. Find Big Team Golf and tap Cancel Subscription

Web app — subscriptions are managed through secure billing:

  1. Sign in at app.bigteamgolf.com
  2. Go to Settings → Subscription → tap Manage Subscription
  3. Cancel from the billing portal that opens

Either way, your access continues until the end of your current billing period.

My group plays at different courses. Does that matter?

Since Big Team Golf uses average score and birdies per round, course difficulty can skew weightings. If your group rotates between courses, consider creating a separate club for each course with its own player weightings.

I want to change the tee I normally play. Will that affect my weighting?

No. Moving to a different tee typically impacts your scores and birdies, so BigTeamGolf saves your rounds separately for each tee you play. Your weighting from one set of tees is never mixed with another.

Why does my weighting change so much from round to round?

When you have fewer than 20 rounds entered, each individual round carries more influence, causing larger fluctuations. As you accumulate more rounds, your weighting will stabilize.

Can I play a 9-hole match with fair teams?

Yes. BigTeamGolf requires 9-hole scores to be entered hole-by-hole. 9-hole scores will not be used for your weighting.
