About Big Team Golf

The Problem

You play with the same group every week. And every week, you can't get off the first tee without an argument about the teams.

Someone wants more strokes, and someone else got picked last. Then the same guy ends up on the winning side again.

Big Team Golf takes the picking out of everyone's hands, so the argument has nowhere to start.

The Origin

Big Team is the regular game at Huntsville Country Club in Alabama. By 1977, the members were tired of the fights over who played with whom.

The game ran Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday, and every one started with a shouting match. So they wrote a formula and a computer program to pick the teams instead.

How It Works

Big Team Golf gives each player a weight from their average score and birdies over their last 20 rounds. It then builds teams with equal total weight.

The teams are balanced before you tee off, so nobody needs strokes.

The weight comes from real rounds, so there's no opinion in it. If you're in a slump, the app gives you stronger teammates. If you're on a hot streak, your teammates will have lower weights. The goal is a fair game every time.

This program fixed our club's game. We think it can fix yours.

It works for a club with 500 members or for a weekly game of 8. Your teams come out fair, and the only thing left to worry about is how many birdies you make.
